Wacom users, MUST READ

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 18, 2009, 3:26 PM
This is something I meant to tell you guys about ages ago, but it slipped my mind entirely. Basically, I want to tell you about something that's going to make your experience with Wacom tablets or Cintiqs a hell of a lot nicer. I'll give you a little rundown here, but I also have a short video up that'll explain things really nicely for you.

For starters, you can go to the deviation by clicking below, which will link you to the YouTube video, or you can click here to go straight to the video.

Video: SmudgeGuard for Wacoms by Rahll

So what this is, is something called SmudgeGuard. It's a little half glove that fits over your drawing hand. What this will effectively do is make your drawing experience a thousand times better. You won't get grease or oil on your Cintiq or tablet anymore, so your strokes are going to be much smoother and more natural, and your hand won't stick or drag ever again.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Everyone I know who's ever gotten one absolutely loves it, and wouldn't even think about working without it. Best of all, it's relatively cheap, especially for how much you're going to use it and how long it's going to last. So check out the video, it'll give you a better idea of what it's all about, or you can go directly to the website at SmudgeGuard.com to learn more.

Also, definitely check out the testimonials on the site. If I can't convince you, I'm sure they will.

Take care guys, pick one of these up if you get a chance. You won't regret it.

I have been using fingerless gloves and wristbands for a long time now. But not because the reasons you name. The skin on my wrist was tearing up from rubbing on the tablet (sounds nasty but just a small annoying spot =P )
Can't imagine using a wacom without anything on the wrist.

Yeah, with my old tablet, after extended use, sometimes the side of my hand would feel a little raw.

That is something you definitely need when working with a Cintiq, I keep sticking on it with my hand, no matter what I try :XD: I used a sheet of paper on my Intuos back in the day, which helped a ton, but can't do that on the Cintiq... well reason is clear XD
I am just thinking about making a similar thing for myself, including customs duty and shipping over here makes it quite expensive for me.. :dead:

on the other side.. don't you start to sweat on that half of the hand :?

The material is actually relatively thin and breathable nylon, so you really won't sweat unless it's from the heat of the Cintiq.

I've never heard of or even used that thing before. Well, primarily because I don't use my laptop stylus tablet as often as I do until recently. But thanks for sharing, anyways. =3

Good thing to see they're for left-handed people too :3 When I first read that this journal entry was about a 'glove' I managed to become rather sad even before I scrolled down to look at the website :XD: They even say it's supposed to help left-handed children from smudging when writing in school... and although I never had any problems with it (I just don't remember ever smudging anything, even when writing with my left hand) it's a really good thing if parents say they experience it with their children a lot.

I use a wacom bamboo fun medium, and I don't get much smudges on it for some reason... but then again, if ever come across one it might be a good investment for an eventual cintiq some day in the future.

huh, sounds cool, but using my tablet i don't experience grease stains or smudging or stuff like that. If i did and was unsatisfied with some parts of my tablet i would get one, but i don't think im gonna get one. Thanks for the tip though. I will keep this in mind if i start to get grease puddles.

It's not just about grease, although it can be an issue. Regardless of that, it lets your hand glide a lot smoother and more naturally, but I guess it's still a matter of personal preference.

i get ya. but my tablet is the smaller widescreen one? i think, and it's not to big. As weird as it may be, i actually like for my had to be in the same place when i draw, idk why, but im left handed and always felt more comfortable keeping my hand in one place. But that doesn't mean it's not a good product, I just don't see it to my advantage for my style. The keeping clean part would be a plus, but my tablet doesn't get dirty too often.

Thanks again for showing this to me though.

Hope to see some more of your stuff.

Other facts I learned from your videos: I hold my pencil wrong. I tried holding it like you do and the results are astounding. Who knew? oO Also: you sound like Dave Grohl.

I could use this. When I spend 3+ hours on a traditional drawing I smudge it to hell, and it becomes unpresentable. No wonder I have nothing up - the one thing I DO have up is just to surprise my friend for her bday. *sigh*
