I haven't written a journal about a movie in a long time, but after seeing Inception, I absolutely have to. In my opinion, it is the best movie of 2010 thus far, and has definitely landed a spot in my top 10.

I can tell you right now that I'm not going to spoil anything for you, because that would really dilute the experience. Inception will be very different than you expect, but nothing short of amazing. If you don't know anything about it, first watch the trailer here.

As someone who's very involved with and in love with dreams (some of you might remember journals I've written before), this movie strikes a special chord with me and I cannot stop thinking about it and all its implications.



Even at 2 and a half hours long, it's over in no time, and leaves you wanting more. Not in an unfulfilled way, but in such a way where you don't want to wake up, especially when doing so often entails walking out into the blinding sunlight.

Inception has some of the most dazzling sequences I've seen in years, and there's one fight scene in particular that outdoes anything in the Matrix simply for its ingenuity and how it was filmed. It feels real, or as real a dream can, and doesn't feel like a CG enhanced choreographed romp.



Not to mention, once the setup is complete and you're about an hour into the movie, it's literally nonstop until the end. You'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time, especially when you realize there are actual stakes in the various levels of the subconscious dream world.

It's also incredible how everything finally comes together, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slack jawed, staring at the screen. I haven't been this dazzled at the theatre in years. Even Avatar, for all its amazing visuals, didn't strike such an emotional and visual chord with me as Inception does, even if the film itself is slightly lacking in emotion.



More or less, you need to see this film. It's by Christopher Nolan, and for those of you who don't know him, he's directed Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight. The man hasn't made a bad film, and he doesn't disappoint with Inception. I'm sure I'll end up seeing it at least a couple more times.

I've noticed how some critics are complaining that the movie is "too smart" or "too confusing", but that makes me laugh. Yes, it's complex, and yes you might have to do a little thinking, but you'll pick it back up in no time, because the movie pretty much explains outright everything you need to know. The only thing that's a little ambiguous is the end, but it's absolutely the perfect ending.



Inception is a breath of fresh air in cinema, especially in a world where we're dealing with more and more flicks like Transformers 2, movies that insult the audience with terrible writing and awful ideas. It's not without some flaws, but I'll take a thinking man's movie any day over some Michael Bay film.

Inception definitely needs to be on your list of must-see movies. It'll change the way you look at your dreams, and might even change the way you dream altogether. Simply amazing.
