I was already going to be working on a matte painting for fun tonight, and I figured I'd cue you guys in on it in case you wanted to check it out from the beginning stages.

I'll be starting at 9pm EST, on my Livestream channel, and going for an hour or two before I sign off. You can see what time it'll be for you here. It's about an hour and a half from the posting of this journal.

The painting is going to be a 2012 style, apocalyptic city destruction scene. Yeah, I know, I'm excited too. And for those of you who don't know, matte painting is a technique used for film and games, where photos are used and painted into to create an ideal or impossible scene.

It's not going to be a comprehensive tutorial or anything like that, I'm by no means an expert at it, and matte painting can often be trial and error to get the right look, but I'll give some tricks and tips as well as show you how I go about getting into a matte painting, including inspiration, reference collecting, and texture grabbing.

I'll talk for part of it, but I'll also probably have periods where I shut up and just work. Feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to read them while I work.
