Okay, I haven't bitched or complained in a little while, but someone is essentially calling me a liar and borderline thief, so I'm using this journal to call attention to a ridiculous situation and to clear my name of the trash being thrown on it.

So, a lot of you know my Aliens vs Halo piece seen below:


But, there's also some Aliens vs Halo art made prior to mine by an individual on this site. One submitted in '04, the other in 06'. For reference, my was submitted in '07:


Now, this situation comes up again from the past because he suddenly got a DD on this piece, a color re-envisioning of his first Aliens vs Halo piece:


Now, way back when I submitted mine, he came to my page and started giving me shit like I stole his art or something like that...

On his latest piece, he offers this as part of his description:

"I just felt the original picture needed updating. It was a quick idea when i first did it, and now other people have taken it away, spent 10 times as long on it and started to actually even tout it as their own idea. Quite annoying! (and a little sad)"

First off, he is NOT the first person to compare the two franchises. There are so many similarities between characters, dialog, and scenarios it's ridiculous. But he gets upset with me for doing fan art that falls into the same realm as his, without bowing down to him and giving him all credit...

I never claimed I came up with the entire concept on my own and that it was mine. But you know what, that shouldn't even matter, simply because no one can claim ownership over a simple idea as having Aliens and Halo put together in a piece of work.

It's fan art, and VS art at that... something that was inevitable. I mean come on. Especially when you look at my work vs. his and realize that the pieces are absolutely nothing alike aside from having the Chief and an Alien. Mine has multiple Aliens, as well as facehuggers and pods and *gasp* an environment.

So, back when he started giving me shit, I gave him a little shit back, just to mess around. I was humoring him, and I didn't take it seriously, nor did I think he was serious. I thought we were kidding... but he persists in calling me out... Even a couple months ago he decided to leave this on my page, implying that I'm completely unoriginal and all I can do is suck in other's ideas. His comment is as follows:

"i guess you dont do a great deal of original stuff ... just spongey. like a giant spongey sponge"

Aside from hounding me ever since I submitted my work, he decides to hide all comments I leave on his newest Aliens vs Halo submission. The very first comment on the work is hidden, and I believe it was mine... I don't know exactly what I said, but it was joking, along the lines of saying he stole my idea... just to give him a little shit back for the shit he was giving me.

Apparently this pissed him off. Now that it got a DD, I went back, saw his description, and my hidden comment, and left this, which he also hid, instead of responding to like an adult:

"Jesus, dude, you think I'm serious? I've been joking around with you. If I recall correctly, you're the one who started razzing me first about my painting, so I gave you a little shit back. I never claimed it was my own original concept, nor do you have ownership of this concept, or generic VS art. Do you realize how many similarities between the two franchises there are? Search it on Google, you'll find plenty of articles and blogs... But you want me to give you complete credit for the idea? Get off your high horse."

I refuse to give credit to someone who shouldn't get credit for something like this in the first place. If this were the case, every single piece of fan art out there depicting the same characters, or any similar VS concepts would need to be credited to the almighty who claims to have been the originator. Not to mention, everyone pulls inspiration from somewhere, and they reinvent, or envision something new... which is what I did.

Sure, his work came as inspiration way back when I first saw it, long before I did my piece... but you know what inspired my work more than his piece? The two franchises themselves. Look at my work... it has the trademark dark lighting you seen in the Aliens films, the environmental structures are even loosely modeled off a shot I took of some elements in the hanger...

I have the mist you so often see, and dramatic lighting. I have facehuggers, multiple aliens, the pods, hallways, pipes, ducts, sci-fi tech, acid blood... I could go on. You know what his has? Two figures in a foggy setting, or in a fiery abstract fall... The similarities are so minimal, you can barely consider them alike, but apparently according to him, I owe him everything for it.

Anyways, this isn't here to trash the guy, this isn't here so you can go over there and say shit to him, because I don't want you to. I'm doing this to clear my name in a sense, and call attention to something that I personally perceive as being utter bullshit.

You don't own the right to anything with the Master Chief and a Xenomorph in it bud, give it a rest.
